MEN BREAKING BARRIERS Cancer Trust

Silence is not a cure, and ignorance is not prevention.

About Us

Men Breaking Barriers Cancer Trust (MBBCT) which was founded in June 2008 is a registered Zambian charity created in the memory of our father Mr Beaton Mukwasa Chilufya who passed in July 2006.

The prostate gland being part of the male reproductive system is not openly talked about in Zambian culture as it is considered taboo to talk openly about sex and sexuality. An even greater challenge is that prostate cancer affects those above the age of 50 years, an age group that is considered to be strict in following traditional norms.

The inability for men to talk openly about sex and sexuality has led to “men suffering quietly”.

One of the late Mr Chilufya's many attributes, which he was widely known by, was his ability to break barriers and consult or be consulted, and share experiences and enforce fairness on a wide range of issues in a cheerful manner. It was from these rare qualities that the theme "MEN BREAKING BARRIERS, let’s talk about it" was founded, in an effort to keep the spirit of consulting alive and thereby break barriers on Prostate Cancer among men.

The main activities of the charity are:

· To raise public awareness in the area of prostate cancer in men.

· To support health institutions in providing new equipment or assistance in acquiring equipment that can be used in the early detection of prostate cancer.

· Promote and carry out, or assist in promoting and carrying out research, surveys and investigations, and publish the useful results on prostate cancer.

· To provide emotional, psychological, spiritual, physical and social support to those suffering from prostate cancer and other cancer related illnesses.
